Round-the-World by Bike: Part the Second

So, anyway we're in Bangkok at the moment, thinking of heading off in less than a week or so on the bikes to begin the Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam leg of the trip...

Fortunately Thailand does the civilised visa-waiver thang, Cambodian eVisas are available on the web and in the pipes, and for the Vietnamese visa, we'll just burn that bridge when we come to it.

So far here we've done a good bit of relaxing; enjoyed the absofuckin'lutely fanbloodytastic Thai food (sooo much more satisfying than anything Chinese)...
Yesterday we spent a few hours on the hallowed [or should that be hollowed out] Th. Khao San Rd™ – the Hippy Trail's ™ bland oasis of mainstream flashpacking indulgence. Not bad for a few hours, but hardly somewhere to actually call a destination... Anyway, we picked up some dodgy VCD's, postcards, a plug adaptor for the ridiculous HK laptop cable, some tackily crass almost-disposable T-shirts, and a few too many baby-coconuts – Gaby's newfound fave... I s'pose the highlight of the day was the Thai massage – my back, ankles and stuff all cracked satisfyingly, but perhaps best of all, my stubbornly deformed mutant 2nd toes got so loosened as now to be able to wiggle and even - gasp – kinda straighten...

So PLAN C (revision 19, part 5, subsection iv) is to re-assemble the bikes in a day or three, in the airconditioned comfort of our cheapo outer-suburban hotel. From here we'll meander towards the Cambodian border, spend a week exploring Ankors who. wat, where, when and why, then drift onwards towards Vietnam and HCM. A month or two should get us up the length of the country before we pop over into southern China for as much as we have time for before work in Beijing beckons, there to spend August working (for ELC the regular mob in Sydney) on a Teacher Training Course, and later – who knows ???
